London-based illustrator and animator Yoyo The Ricecorpse a.k.a 木匣子与圆脸兔 is from the mountain of flowers and fruits, and she is on the way to see waterfalls and unicorns! Yoyo creates adorable & cute creatures and she’d like to meet with Totoro the God of the forest.
“I don’t really make any plans of what I draw. I am kind of a ‘go with the heart’ person unless the project brief is really restrictive! Sometimes it is about ‘what feels right,’ rather than what people might think of the outcome. Most projects were unconsciously found during my spontaneous experiments. I might have said this before as well, I think my imagination is my inspiration, and my imagination is a tower of things piling up, things I’ve heard and seen from my everyday life/past experience. They settle down in my brain and wait for their turn to come out! Here’s a tiny list of people whom I admire, they are my continuous influence for life …” said Yoyo The Ricecorpse and she is inspired by the writer Roald Dahl, Hayao Miyazaki, a manga artist Eiichiro Oda, an artist Grayson Perry and Taiwanese Indie band, Soda Green.
Yoyo The Ricecorpse is usually seen hanging around the city with her cute imaginary friends while she is playing, eating, running, joking around with them. Like in this series “Little Girl”, her friend Jae Hyung Park captures Yoyo The Ricecorpse in a full story line with magic. You can see more on her behance about this project, TAH DAH!
“I think traveling definitely has helped me in many ways. Like I said before, my brain collects things and I can never predict what I produce with the things stored in it! One of my major inspirations comes from Roald Dahl’s books. I think for me, reading also challenges my imagination. I think every book has its own life and personality. When I read a book, it is as if I am entering a whole different world. It is a bit like traveling, a trip for my imagination.” ― Yoyo The Ricecorpse
Little Girl by Yoyo The Ricecorpse:
“Well my art journey wasn’t so much like a stereotyped movie scene…I think it just fell on me gradually and naturally. I remember when I was little, dad used to bring home boxes of chalks and I can still recall snippets of me spending my afternoons drawing on the floor outside our front gate. I guess I just never deserted drawing (even at my busiest times), I have always kept it going and everything I picked up on the way made me who I am today. At the moment I am hoping to carry on developing it further.” ― Yoyo The Ricecorpse
